Comment Period Open for Proposed New Household Sewage Rules

By November 21, 2013News

Marion Public Health enforces the rules established by the State of Ohio regarding Household Sewage Disposal Systems. District officials say this is an important issue throughout Marion.

The State of Ohio is in the process of writing new household sewage rules. That process includes an opportunity for the public to comment. The public comment period will run through December 12, 2013.

Marion Public Health says that one of their roles as a local health department is to assure the public is aware of its opportunity to weigh in on the rules that impact them. Another role is to enforce those rules as they are written once they are adopted. Officials are encouraging the public, as well as septic system installers, servicers and haulers, to share their thoughts as rules are being written rather than after they are part of the state code and are being enforced.

The draft state rules as well as information about regional meetings regarding those rules can be accessed at www.odh.ohio.gov/rules/drafts/3701-29.aspx.

Comments can be sent by email to ODHrules@odh.ohio.gov or mailed to Office of General Counsel (Sewage Rules), Ohio Department of Health, 246 N High St, Columbus, Oh 43215 or faxing to 614-466-4556.
