Birth record database offers wider availability

By April 16, 2015News

Marion Public Health is participating in a State-wide service for individuals wishing to purchase a certified copy of an Ohio birth record.

Local registrar offices throughout the state have access to issue an Ohio birth record regardless of the county where the birth occurred.

“This helps to streamline birth record requests across the state and more quickly connect Ohioans with birth records” said Carol White, Local Registrar. “This is very helpful for people needing a birth record in a hurry, since a person will now be able to travel to the closest office and purchase the record they need.”

With this database, all local health departments are able to access and issue a certified birth abstract for Ohio birth records dating back to 1908.

Carol added that participation by local departments is optional and not all offices may choose to participate.

Currently this State-wide availability does not apply to certified copies of death certificates.

Marion Public Health is located at 181 S. Main Street with office hours of 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday. The application for birth certificates is available in the office or on this website by clicking here.
