August is National Breastfeeding Month, and we can’t think of a better way to kick it off than with a celebration of a local mom’s recent breastfeeding success!
“My name is Katelynn Sission and I recently had my first baby in April. I was excited to learn about breastfeeding my daughter but being a new mom I didn’t know much about it at all. I’m glad WIC was able to help me with the questions and concerns I have had.
I want to give Dorthey their Peer Helper a special thank you for always giving me the best breastfeeding advice and confidence because breastfeeding is not an easy thing to do what so ever, and having her reassure everything for me is what kept me motivated. I have learned a lot about breastfeeding and how much it can benefit my baby and I.
Thank you WIC family for all the support and help you’ve given me and my family.”
Marion County WIC’s Breastfeeding Peer helps to educate and support local WIC participants who are interested in and/or choose breastfeeding for their family. Breastfeeding Peers give mother-to-mother information, help with common concerns, and gives encouragement to help mothers, and their families, reach their breastfeeding goals.
Marion Public Health also offers a monthly breastfeeding class that is open to everyone in the community on the first Wednesday of every month.
